Volvo 2004 awd S80, angle gear failure at 69712 miles. Cost 2555. 18 an email to Volvo resulted in a $200 rebate. They questioned why the repair was not done at the original dealer but at another Volvo dealer, reason was that was where I broke down. After talking with Volvo had a strong suspicion that the repair may have been covered better if I returned to the original dealer. 2004 Volvo S80 Transmission Problems

2010 Volvo S80 total systems failure on the highway. Volvo dealer replaced the computer. The computer had turned off the fuel pump, causing all systems to fail. This could have been a major accident. Two other friends with the same model Volvo report similar failures.

In the past month when I drive there is surging and hesitation. When I stop then accelerate there is no power, symptoms occurring more frequently and daily. I took it to dealer where I purchased the vehicle thinking it was a recall for the ems. Dealer says no codes came up it was ems problem that I need a new transmission. Metal in trans. Fluid. I purchased in oct. 2008 with 30 day warranty and it only has 79,000 miles.

1999 vollvo S80 t6 transmission went completely out. Would not go forward or back. Towed in and said transmission needed to be replaced. Also mechanic said the cv shaft that connects the transmission to the spindle needed replaced after the transmission was replaced.

Then the vehicle unexpectedly lurched forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated the transmission required replacement. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileages were 123,000. The VIN was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2000 Volvo S80. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly surged forward lightly. The failure continued intermittently at any speed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Driving along down an interstate I hit the gas to drive around a car when my transmission came out of gear and the service engine light came on I lost all power to the wheels and was almost rear ended I had no power to make it to the side of the road it is kicking back in but I can not drive above 20 mph or above 3000 rpm or it will slip out and red line also my engine mount has broken for the second time when it slipped out my s 80 t6 is becoming a paper weight.

I have a 2001 Volvo S80 t6 with 61000 miles. Within the last two weeks it felt as though the car was 'slipping' out of gear on several occasions. . . The rpms would flair then normalize. Yesterday the car just quit moving. It was towed to the Volvo dealer and I was just told the transmission is shot and would cost $4000 to replace with a remanufactured one. My problem does not seem to be an isolated incident. I've found that its well known the transmission is a problem and since they tend to fail after 50000 miles, Volvo's warranty is expired. Now I'm stuck with putting the same worthless transmission back into the vehicle only to expect it to fail again in the future. Volvo needs to recall the transmission or extend the warranty to at least 100000 miles.

Initially lack of acceleration and sputtering on acceleration, check engine light and emission system error message. Codes reset. Then problem recurred approximately one month later. Dealer provided etm software download. Approximately 3 weeks after download, check engine light on, weak acceleration, hesitation or slipping on shifting.

Purchased a Volvo S80 in 2001;vehicle currently has 60700 miles and 3 automatic transmissions & throttle body replacement.

This car was stuck in park. We could not shift the car out of park into drive. We were stuck in a line of traffic and it was a dangerous incident. We repeatedly correctly depressed the button on the gear selector knob and and at the same time depresssed the brake pedal ( we have done this thousands of times on this vehicle from 2001 to present without any problems) . It took over 15 minutes of turning off the enigine and restarting it, turning the steering back and forth to finally get it out of park into drive. We are fully aware of the brake shift interlock safety feature. This incident was the result of equipment malfunction and not operator error. My wife and I each struggled to finally get it from park to drive. This is a real equipment problem that needs to be investigated and corrected. My wife and I both drive Volvos and are experienced Volvo drivers. Any suggestion of operator error is frivolous defense.

Transmission will not downshift or provide any vehicle deceleration. Rpm goes to 750 when foot is removed from the gas but vehicle speed remains same and only coasts o slow down.

Similar to a NHTSA complaint number 873996, this vehicle (2000 Volvo s-80 t6) shut down during highway driving at 70 mph. Console message status indicated 'engine system service urgent' after coasting to safe location, engine would not re-start until cooled. After starting, the message status remained the same, but cruise control was inoperable, automatic transmission would not operate above 2000 rpm in both automatic -or- manual mode. Early symptoms of this problem may have been falsely manifested as poor automatic transmission shifting performance in 3rd, 4th, and overdrive gears. The symptoms have persisted until failure since the vehicle was purchased. As of 10/4/03, dealer had replaced the entire electronic throttle body (carburetor) at consumer cost of $926. 70 and recommended cruise control module replacement estimated at $860. 00original vehicle history including complete transmission replacement at 9000 miles is available from owner or dealer. Additionally, the electronic throttle module (carburetor) is available for failure analysis. Complaint is an addto email consumer letter regarding an internet voq request that was filed in reference to 2000 Volvo S80. Volvo experiencing engine surges. 10041220 is the complaint in which this email consumer letter is being added to.

2002 Volvo S80 when stopped on a hill, facing down a decline, when you put the car in reverse, then take your foot off the brake. . . The car 'freely' rolls forward. Same thing happens when stopped on an incline and you put the car in drive. Almost hit the car in front of me, and almost hit a pedestrian. . . . The transmission 'acts like' a manual one in these situations. You need to use two feet in order to get out of situation without hitting another car (when in a parallel parked situation. . . Etc. ) complained to my dealer and Volvo customer svc. . They told me that is the way the car is and there is nothing I can do about it. I explained the potential hazard, and he re-iterated the comment.

Interior controls break often, light bulbs are constantly going out--every light replaced at least once. Automatic transmission replaced 'under warrenty' at 51,200--but must have been replaced with a rebuilt or used transmission--as it is very much louder and 'wines' when shifting--very loud. Car not worth the $36,250 that I would have paid new--luckly I am just leasing and it is finished this September. Also strange things in the electrical system, doors that won't open or lock by themselves. Abs brake light constantly going on. Car is a lemon with many design flaws, and dealer is powerless or refuses to fix, despite the fact that I took it in for service regularily to the same dealer. This is the second Volvo from same dealer, other was a 240dl (1988), a wonderful car. I will never buy or lease another Volvo--please warn others.
